24 March
Germany: Torgau
The Renaissance town of Torgau played an important role during the Reformation, providing refuge for Protestants fleeing persecution. Martin Luther gave the inaugural sermon at the Castle Church, the world’s first newly built Protestant church, housed within the elegant Hartenfels Castle.

26 March
Germany: Dresden
Dresden is one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, a symphony of striking baroque architecture. The restored Altstadt is a quite remarkable sight given its near total destruction during the Second World War, which was followed by years of neglect under the communist government of East Germany.

Germany: Bad Schandau

Arriving in Decin
The town of Decin, with its imposing castle, is situated at the confluence of the Elbe and Ploucnice rivers, close to the Czech border with Germany. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and this is a popular start and end point for Elbe river cruises, around an hour and a half's drive from Prague.
Viking Elbe Ships
What we love
Refurbished by Viking to bring the interiors in line with their Scandinavian style, these older ships offer great value lead in staterooms with two single beds as well as larger balcony grades, a light and airy observation lounge and good restaurant serving regional specialties.
